Regional conference “Strengthening Culture”
The regional conference “Strengthening Culture” was organised on 21 and 22 September 2016 at the National Library of Kosovo and under the auspice of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport of Kosovo (MCYS).
The event gathered both regional and international participants and focused on cultural policies and culture as elements for sustainable development in Kosovo and the Balkan region. The aim of the conference was to enable a collective reflection on the design and implementation of strategic approaches that stimulate and foster a cultural system, fundamental for the development of sustainable societies.
The conference was opened by Mr. Libor Chlad, Deputy Head of Cooperation of the EU Office in Kosovo, Mr. Vehbi Miftari, Senior Political Adviser of the MCYS and Ms. Mercedes Giovinazzo, Director of Interarts.
The plenary sessions on “building a cultural system” and “the role of education” as well as group sessions on “participation in cultural life”, “short and long-term impacts”, “creating platforms” and “enriching curricula” were carried out with experts such as Mr. Alessandro Bollo (Fundazione Fitzcarraldo), Mr. Robert Manchin (Culture Action Europe), Ms. Annalisa Cicechia (ISTAT), Mr. Eroll Bilibani (DOKUFEST), Ms. Milica Pekić (KOOPERATIVA), Mr. Peter Inkei (Budapest Observatory), Ms. Aleksandra Uzelak (IRMO), Ms. Dea Vidovič (KulturaNova), Ms. Gabriella Triantafyllis (Stavros Niarchos Foundation), Ms. Katarina Pavič (Clubture Network), Ms. Zana Krasniqi (Artpolis) and Mr. Michael Wimmer (EDUCULT).
On the second day of the event, the participants were invited to take part in networking activities and to discuss in small groups with the international and local experts different issues related to the cultural development in Kosovo and the Balkan region.
In total, the conference gathered over 70 participants from public and private organisations form different parts of Kosovo, the Balkan region and Europe.
